A bespoke paddle begins with a conversation — usually over espresso, sometimes over the telephone — about who you are as a player and what the paddle needs to do for you. Twelve weeks later, one paddle leaves the atelier.

Every Prima Serie is, in its way, the same paddle — hand-built, but to a single specification. Atelier Custom is for the player who has played long enough to know what they want changed. Perhaps you have a preference for a slightly heavier head. Perhaps the standard 26 mm thickness is not your thickness. Perhaps you want a grip in a colour that does not yet exist.

What follows is how a commission unfolds, and what you can change about the paddle along the way.

The Process

Four meetings, one paddle.

Week 1 · Consultation

The first conversation

We meet — in Milano, if you can travel; by video if you cannot — for roughly ninety minutes. We ask about your game, your rating, your typical opponents, your favourite surface, and the paddle you play with now. We ask what you want more of, and what you want less of. We do not ask what colour you want the grip. That comes later.

Week 3 · Sketch

The proposal

Two weeks after our first conversation, we send you a one-page proposal. It names the weight range, balance point, core density, face finish, and two or three aesthetic directions we believe would suit you. Nothing is final. You have two weeks to sit with it, to ask questions, to change your mind about everything we suggested.

Weeks 5-11 · Construction

The bench

Once the proposal is signed, your paddle enters the atelier queue. Six weeks of work: cutting, layup, cure, drilling, finishing, grip. You receive two updates during this stretch — one after the autoclave, one after the MSR-3 finish — with a photograph, a weight reading, and a short note from the master who is building your paddle.

Week 12 · Delivery

The handover

Delivery is, wherever possible, in person — Giuseppe or one of the masters will meet you at the atelier (or travel to you, if you are in Europe) with the finished paddle in its walnut case. There is always a coffee afterwards. Sometimes, if the weather is right, there is a match on the courts in Isola.

Deep green (standard), anthracite, midnight blue, oxblood, or a bespoke Pantone match. The gold motif is preserved on every paddle.

Tuscan cognac (standard), Tuscan noir, or an alternative tannery from Germany, France, or the United Kingdom on request.

Engraving

Your initials, a short motto (up to 18 characters), or a family crest. Applied by hand to the throat of the paddle in 22-karat gold leaf.
